During World War One the most brutal fronts were almost always the trenches. The big reason that trenches were so brutal is because you needed to rely on your defenses and rely on your opponent to come after you. Unfortunately both sides would run trenches which left a defensive fight that would rarely go very far along the battlefield. Because of the brutality there were also chances for great heroics during the grueling battles like the act of Alvin York.

The use of aircraft was a relatively new concept for war during this time period. Regardless of that fact control of the sky would prove to be a great advantage for the time. just like the trench warfare the fight in the air was strenuous and required great strategic superiority. One american who proved himself by taking command of the sky almost single handedly
